WEST ISLIP FIRE DEPARTMENT*
Marine Fire/Rescue Team
The West Islip Fire Department Marine Fire / Rescue Team is made up of members of the department who have received special training in both SCUBA Rescue and Marine Firefighting. The SCUBA divers are all P.A.D.I. or N.A.U.I. Certified with Search and Recovery specialties. The team also consists of Certified Dive Tenders to assist the divers in rescue situations. The Marine Fire / Rescue Team is responsible for water rescue and marine fires for all waterways of the West Islip community and the barrier beaches of Robert Moses and Captree State Parks. In addition, the West Islip Fire Department Water Fire/Rescue Team is capable of responding to ice rescue emergencies with the use of their Hovercraft.\
The Dive Team currently operates with the following apparatus: 3-17-9 1985 Step Van (SCUBA Van)
Either unit can be towed depending on the call type:
The following unit is docked at the West Islip Marina: 3-17-B1 2000 35' Thomas Marine Custom Fire/Rescue Boat 3-17-B2 1978 23' MACO Center Console with 200 hp outboard.
